Some Astounding Baseball Statistics
Some Astounding Baseball Statistics
By Aron Wallad
Ty Cobb
His lifetime batting average of .367 is awesome. It is downright baffling.
Year after year of hitting over .300. His first year was the only year he hit less than .300
Nine years batting .380 or higher.
Including and after age 40 he batted .343
When he finished the year he turned 22
he had 765 hits
Lou Gehrig
Knocking in over 150 runs in a year seven times.
Rogers Hornsby
Hitting over .400 for a five year period.
From 1921 to 1925 he hit .401
He even batted .424 in 1924
Cy Young
Winning 511 games or
Losing 316 times or having 815 complete games.
Or pitching 7354 innings in his career.
Imagine if he had a reliable bull pen.
Barry Bonds
232 walks in 2002 with 120 of them being
intentional base on balls. Maybe the opposition was
nervous about pitching to him.
He also has 604 lifetime intentional walks.
Hank Aaron is number two with 293 intentional walks.
Hank Aaron
755 home runs in his career
He never hit 50 in a season.
6856 total bases
Stan Musial is number two with
6134 total bases
1477 extra base hits - # one rank
This is 100 more extra base hits than
# 2 – Stan Musial
Alex Rodriguez
From 1998 to 2003 (six seasons)
281 home runs – average 46.8 home runs per year
762 RBIs – average 127 per year
1100 hits – average 183 per year
Plus every year he had at least 100 runs scored
Jimmy Foxx
13 straight years of at least 100 RBIs
Four years with at least 150 RBIs
Bob Gibson
1968 season
1.12 ERA, 13 shutouts
4 wild pitches, 28 complete games
Walter Johnson
110 career shutouts
11 years of at least 290 innings pitched
Warren Spahn
Won 21 games eight times
He had a total of eight wins by the time
he turned 25 years of age.
He wins 62 games from age 40 to age 42.
Babe Ruth
In 1920 and again in 1927
He hit more home runs than every
team in the American League.
Mel Ott
In the year he reached his 22nd birthday
Up to and including age 22
He had the most runs – 463
Home runs – 115
Total bases – 1233
RBIs – 485
Bases on Balls – 362
Times on Base – 1089
Extra base hits – 266
Of any 22 year old Major Leaguer
I guess Mel got an early start.
I am sure there are some other astounding years
These accomplishments are a few of my top
productions in baseball history.

Coaching Teamwork
Coaching Teamwork
By John J. Castro
With team sports such as baseball, the more your players that can work together, the greater the chances of success they will have on the field. The true meaning of a team work comes out when the players learn to understand all the benefits of working together and very actively really want to do so. When you are the coach, bringing your team together is your own responsibility. This should be part of your coaching philosophy. Things that can help you with bringing your team together would be things such as, applaud for every successful play made on the field. For example if a second baseman makes a great play and throws the ball off balance and the ball comes up short to the first baseman but he catches it in the dirt and still gets the out.
You should cheer for the second baseman but never forget to cheer for the first baseman as well because his effort as well as the second baseman's effort might have been the reason they got the out. Another thing you should always do is to encourage enthusiasm in the dugout as well as on the field. Always have the team supporting each other. Even if there are players on the bench that are not playing they should still be supporting their team. Last you should always change around your captain role throughout your team to avoid jealousy or favoritism within the team. Even so maybe the best way to avoid any jealousy would be to not even have a team captain. This way everyone is equal to one another and everyone can play that same role.

Running A Little League Baseball Fall League By Marty Schupak
Running A Little League Baseball Fall League By Marty Schupak
By Marty Schupak
Youth baseball seasons seem to be going longer and longer. Some leagues enter All Star tournaments all the way through August. Come the fall, do some of these players who have played the last six months really want to enter a Fall League? The answer is yes. More and more fall leagues are cropping up around the country. Even with the competition from football and soccer leagues, some baseball purists still can’t get enough. How should a youth baseball organization run a fall league? The first thing the league has to do is see if their league insurance covers them for the whole year or just the baseball season. The league Board should look into this and determine the fee for the league. As for uniforms, nothing more than colored t-shirts from the league are really necessary.
The games themselves can be played a number of ways. I happen to think that the league should be as non competitive as possible. This is a great opportunity for players to play different positions that they didn’t do during the season. Pitchers innings should be limited. For example, if it is a four game season a player can’t pitch more than four innings the whole fall season. If it is an eight game season, no more than eight innings, total for the Fall league season. One inning per game per pitcher should be the average. This is forcing the manager to use different pitchers. Also how about having a batting order comprised of the whole team, let’s say one thru twelve. With this we have free fielding substitutions. The point here is to get each player up. You can add other rules to keep the game moving like nine players maximum at bat per inning or seven walks per inning.
There are a number of other creative rules a league can try. The league has to make sure if they have certain rule changes it is aloud by the League Board of Directors and the League Charter. The main point is some kids prefer playing baseball to soccer or football in the fall. If there is enough interest, it’s a shame to keep these fields empty during the months of September and October and when timed correctly a youth baseball fall league can be run right up to league tryouts for the next Spring season.

Baseball Hitting Mechanics - Don't Settle For Sloppy
Baseball Hitting Mechanics - Don't Settle For Sloppy
By KC Andrus
I Hit The Ball Pretty Well, Why Worry About Mechanics?
Everyone who has ever played baseball, knows that it is a game of failure. They have heard how it is a GOOD sign if you fail 70% of the time. These are just the cold, hard facts, the nature of the game that is our nation's greatest pastime. With so much of the game built on personal defeat, it is easy to get down in the dumps fast. One of the game's most famous quotes, and possibly one of sport's most famous quotes came from Yogi Berra, who said, "Baseball is 90% mental -- the other half is physical."
This is such a true statement that come from one of sport's most unique personalities. Baseball is such a mental game, there is so much thought process that goes into all facets of the game that it makes the game seem almost impossible at times, and the most mental part of the game is most certainly hitting. This is why it is so important to focus on proper hitting mechanics, because then you can focus on the mental aspect of the game and not have to worry about what you're doing with you're swing when you're actually in the batter's box. You can focus on what's really important when the pitcher is staring down at you, HITTING THE BALL!! Okay, so now that we have discovered why baseball mechanics are important, we can get to the good stuff, what the heck are the proper mechanics for hitting a baseball. It all starts with the basics, you have to get the basics down in order for your swing to evolve and become more complex.
What are the Mechanics?
- The Stance - There are many so-called hitting "buffs" that will stress the importance of a normal, balanced stance. There is some truth in this but it is more important to just find a comfort zone, this will allow you to relax in the box.
-The Load - The load is very important, and it is absolutely crucial to the timing of your swing. It is extremely important to get some slight backward movement with your swing before whipping the bat through the zone. Make sure you take a small step, this can be as simple as picking up your foot and putting it down or taking a full stride. When in doubt, my golden rule is to simplify, simplify, simplify. Also get some movement with your hands.
-The Swing - The best advice I can give about the actual swing is to "train your hips." Your hips are VERY important to your swing and are responsible for a lot of power withing your swing. Getting stronger in your "core" helps this tremendously.
- The Finish - I don't like to worry about the finish as much as most. Most people will tell you that you have to finish balanced and "squish the bug" with your back foot. Finishing balanced is a very good sign that your swing is smooth, but it is not essential to success within your swing, and that is what we are all looking for. Did you find these tips useful? Find out much more about these Baseball Hitting Mechanics and learn a lot of secrets that you need to know and I'm betting no one has told you yet: Baseball Hitting Mechanics

More Effective Baseball Hitting by Better Training Techniques
More Effective Baseball Hitting by Better Training Techniques
By Chris Moheno
Baseball is one of the most popular sports on the planet. People flock to the stadiums and pile around their televisions to watch the games. Beyond that, however, hundreds of people want to become more successful as baseball players. But their ability to succeed requires working on their skills. Just because you don't have a personal trainer, that doesn't mean you can learn how to make the most of your baseball training.
Baseball: What is Considered as Effective Hitting?
Effective hitting, in a nutshell, is hitting that results in the bat connecting with the ball. While this may sound simple, most experts agree that hitting the ball is the hardest skill to master. Even some professional players strike out or end up having to walk the bases during a game. The key to being successful in learning how to improve your baseball hitting is obviously practice but you have to practice the right way.
Here's where trouble often comes from. When you're on a team, everyone receives the same training. If you're learning the rules of the game or how to catch the ball, there's nothing wrong with using a standard method of baseball training. Baseball hitting is different. Each player is going to come to the game with a different level of skill and with different techniques that are going to hurt or help their performance. Good training finds ways to work with these existing skills and to maximize them for an overall positive performance. In many cases, that's not going to be possible without one-on-one training.
How Do You Train for It?
If baseball training is important to you but you can't afford to hire a personal trainer, there are other ways to improve your game. As mentioned above, practice is definitely going to be the key to ongoing success. The most effective approach to improving baseball hitting is to practice the individual components of good hitting, including the grip, the stance, and the approach.
Approach, for example, is something that is essential for good baseball training. However, most people have real trouble learning this information because it conflicts with their earlier training. For example, most players are taught from an early age that when they see a pitch coming they need to swing. They are not asked to judge the effectiveness of the baseball pitching. When the people doing the baseball pitching aren't very skilled either, this technique can work. As they improve, however, the will stop pitching strikes when they know the hitter is going to be swinging at every potential shot.
Instead, good hitters need to be able to determine which of the pitches have potential and which do not. Only then will they be able to get those doing the baseball pitching to send them balls with the potential to be great hits.
Another part of training to be a good hitter is practicing the swing. Even a good pitch for the hitter can not connect if that hitter does not have a good swing. Hitters need to realize that more than their arm movements are playing a role in the connection of the bat to the ball. The process actually involves the legs, the hands, the hips, and even the head. One main difference between good hitters and exceptional hitters is their ability to keep their eyes on the ball all the way through contact.
Additional Advice
Professional baseball players who have spent a good portion of their lives and their careers perfecting their ability to make that connection can provide some good advice for newer players, too. One of the most common pieces of advice involves bat selection. Again, no one recommendation is going to work for all players, except the recommendation to find a bat that feels comfortable in your hands. Try out a few and find one that delivers results.
Some pros also suggest that you have someone else watch your performance to provide feedback. That's a benefit of having a trainer but you can get around that problem if you can't afford a trainer. Instead, have someone record your actions so you can watch them later yourself and tweak your performance. You might also be able to watch the recording of your hitting performance with a coach who can evaluate your performance.
The pros also know that good baseball hitting training includes lots of practice. You'll need to complete countless numbers of drills if you want to start seeing an improvement in how often your bat makes that connection with the ball.
Chris Moheno has a long time passion for sports in general and for baseball coaching more specifically.
His goal is to spread the word about effective non-fluff baseball training techniques for both more experienced and young baseball players, to help them perform better during the game. Discover more about baseball training secrets on baseballtrainingsecrets.com

How a High School Baseball Player Can Significantly Increase His Chances of Playing College Baseball
How a High School Baseball Player Can Significantly Increase His Chances of Playing College Baseball
By Jason Alamo
"Make the present good, and the past will take care of itself."
-- Knute Rockne
High School Players with a dream of playing baseball at the next level must realize they only get one chance. One go around at your four years in high school. They will pass very quickly. You might dread getting up early every morning to go to school, wishing it was over, but you will wake up one day and wonder how time passed so quickly. The place you wanted to leave and wish was over, now is. The only problem is most don't realize how quickly it passes until it actually does. Live in the moment, and strive to push as hard as you can each day. The best reward you can give yourself is to look in the mirror at the end of your four years and truly believe that you did everything you could have done...no regrets. That is the real accomplishment.
"You only ever grow as a human being if you're outside your comfort zone."
- Percy Cerutty
Think back to any great accomplishment you have ever achieved. More than likely you were nervous and outside of your comfort zone during a period of that process. Your greatest successes and achievements will happen outside of your comfort zone. Most are unwilling to take themselves to this point because ,frankly, it is just easier not to. The most successful people in the history of the world, were scared, nervous, uneasy, and reluctant to continue along their journey, but continuing when most would have stopped, was what led to the "magic. When learning new mechanics and body movements, players will likely feel "uncomfortable". Anything new will feel uncomfortable for a period of time. A friend of mine, Julio Vega, an assistant coach at St. John's University, talked about this topic during my Best At The Bay Showcase, this past November. He gave a great presentation about "learning to be comfortable, being uncomfortable!"

15 REASONS WHY YOU NEED THE DEREK JETER HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE
1. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE makes home practice so fun, entertaining, convenient, and productive that it is called the "Backyard Basketball Goal For Batters"! The reason for this "nickname" is that baseball and softball players love to hit as much as basketball players love to shoot. Having a hitting station in your yard 24-7 allows a player to hit or practice on "impulse" when he is bored and looking for something to do. Wouldn't you rather that your player swing the bat than play "Game Box", play "Horse" or watch TV? The truth is that the average youth player ,with average height and body build, is much more likely to play high school baseball than high school basketball because baseball involves a larger number of players than basketball. So shouldn't you make sure that your player spends as much time as possible swinging a bat? The Hurricane does just that!
2. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE allows your son or daughter to practice under your watchful eyes and to practice alone when you are at work or out of town. How many times has your son asked you to go outside to throw or pitch, but you had other responsibilities that prevented you from doing so? Now, your player can hit or practice alone without your help with the Hurricane Hitting Machine.
3. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE can be used indoors or outdoors and it makes a perfect year-round hitting station in your home or backyard. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE can easily give your player thousands and thousands of more practice swings each year! If you want your player to compete with other kids in the league, you must find a way to get as many practice swings as possible. The competition is tougher than ever because everyone practices and plays almost year round. Buy a Hurricane and give your player an edge over the competition! You will glad you did when your player becomes one of the team's or league's best hitters! With the purchase of a HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE that goal could be reached!
4. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE has height and speed adjustments for all ages and skill levels from Tee-ball to the college ranks.
5. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE's patented design gives the batter instant feedback as to the power and quality of every practice swing. The player immediately knows if a line drive, ground ball or fly ball was hit. This instant feedback is extremely useful for rapid skill and bat speed development! The Hurricane is well known and respected for developing a powerful line-drive swing!
6. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE is fully self-contained and requires no outside power source. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE's power source is its patented powerband system. This allows you to use it anywhere with ample space. Set it up at practice, before games or between games! It is a super pregame warmup!
7. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE is 100% Guaranteed to improve hitting skill and increase bat speed. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE carries a money back guarantee. HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE parts may be purchased if needed. What more could you ask for? Now you see why the Hurricane is one of the best selling training machines ever! It is one of the most popular trainers ever introduced to the marketplace!
8. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE has a travel weight of just over 30 pounds and it comes with a heavy-duty carrying bag. It fits easily into the trunk of even the compact automobile.
9. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE closely simulates real hitting conditions. The ball's large path of movement and speed of movement requires the hitter to really concentrate. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE builds incredible levels of confidence, fast!

Division I Baseball - Playing at the Highest Level
Division I Baseball - Playing at the Highest Level
By Gary V Hawkins
Are you a high school baseball star hoping to make it to Division I baseball? If you are, I have some good news for you and some bad news for you.
First, the good news. Division I baseball coaches will always need talented players.
The bad news: It is extremely difficult to make it to the Division I level. However, there are other opportunities to play college baseball other than Division I.
Players who make it to the top level of baseball level are extremely skilled and talented. These players are not only the best players on their team, they are usually one of the top two or three players in their entire league, conference or even region. Let's take a look at some of the requirements of reaching the division I baseball level:
1. Size And Strength
It takes size and strength to play at the top level. Don't let anyone fool you, these guys are true athletes and they train very hard to become even better athletes.
2. Arm Strength
No matter what position you play, arm strength will be critical. If you don't have great arm strength, college coaches at this level will not usually have any interest in signing you.
3. Speed
Division I baseball is also a game of speed. Once again, no matter what position you play, speed is a critical factor.
4. Bat speed/mechanics
Coaches can teach hitting, but they need kids who are already natural with the bat and they can then coach them to become an even better hitter.
5. Grades
If you don't have the grades to stay qualified to play, coaches will most likely look at the next guy and pass you up.
If your dream is to play division I baseball, keep working hard on the field, the weight room, and the classroom. All of these factors will determine if you can play at the top level of college baseball or not. If you can't reach division I, don't forget all the other excellent opportunities to play college baseball at the Division II, Division III, NAIA and even junior college level.
Once you reach your sophomore or junior season in high school, start making contact with the coaches you think you could play for. Even if you don't play for UNC, Rice, Arizona State or any of the other division I baseball power houses, you can still play the game you love at the college level.

When it comes to the game of baseball the real player has to be well known with the tactics of pitching the ball and hitting it at right areas. Pitching the ball in baseball at accurate areas with speed is essential on one side and hitting the ball accurately for runs on the other side. Kids love playing this game and so lot of educational institutions come up with introduction of this sport in their academics. But to be effective and successful in the game it is essential to practice the game a lot and get proper official training.
The ideal hitters are with a combination of strength, determination, cooperation, skills, power, confidence, coordination, vision, and rhythm. They use the exact tactics of body posture control while hitting the ball hard and display some style in it. But it takes days and months of training and practice to result in to a good player. Taking some advice and learning from the experienced people will be helpful for the kids and all youth. The schools and institutes keep a separate class of sports where all kids learn about their favorite sport. As far as baseball is concerned it is essential for the hitters to train themselves accordingly.
The coaches and sports teachers provide good amount of knowledge and share their experience in the game. Kids and young lads can learn a lot in respect of baseball batting tips and the exact way to hold and hit the ball.
Some of the good batting tips that can be followed are:
Baseball bats may differ in the looks and mainly the weight up to some extent. So as per your grip and handle it is to be selected.
Next thing is to train you about the swing and the pitches.
The posture while swinging the slugger is to be accurate for producing the exact stroke with power. The slugger should be held with both hands, upright position behind the head. The front shoulder and the chin have to be tucked in. Keep the head still and wait for the release of the ball.
Moving the hands back a bit when the pitcher is ready for pitching the ball, will be helpful for a perfect swing.
Once the ball is released hit it as per your power and the direction. When to attempt hitting the ball depends on the direction in which it is traveling towards you. When it is in your reach and perfect placement nothing can stop you to hit a home run if connected properly.
Concentrating on the contact and hitting it hard at accurate pitch is what is required in baseball batting. Practice will make the kids perfect in this game and display their talents.

How To Run A Youth Baseball All Star Team
All-Star competition in Little League can be challenging as well as pressure filled for 11 & 12 year old kids. www.HurricaneMachine.com
By Marty Schupak
You’ve just completed an exhausting 20-25 game schedule complete with a few rain make-up games at inopportune times. The season had everything including controversies among other teams, your own parents, league board members, and other headaches. Your reward for coping with all of this, and leading your team to the league championship, is to coach the 11-12 year old All Star team. Think your phone rang a lot during the season? You haven’t seen, or heard, anything yet. Your first duty as coach is to inform your spouse that your long awaited vacation will have to be postponed because your league needs you. You also discuss putting off the repair of your washer machine because, with All Stars, the laundry room is now on call 24 hours a day.
Picking your league All Star team can be an incredibly emotional time that may result in hurt feelings that extend beyond the season, and sometimes for years. Some leagues have incorporated having the players vote for part of the All Star team. Many leagues have the coaches decide in a meeting run by the league commissioner (or player agent). The first priority is to decide the number of players to draft on the team. If your league charter defines this number, then this is what you have to follow. Otherwise this decision has to be made at this meeting. Issues need to be discussed, such as: is it required by the league charter to have everyone play; and how much are they required to play? This issue can become a headache, as the substituting of players will sometimes be a distraction for the coach in charge during the game. Usually, prior to this meeting, the head coach has his assistant coaches assigned by the league. This can be a problem because sometimes coaches would rather take their regular season assistants than two other assigned head coaches that they have never worked with before. I would prefer the latter even though you are discussing strategies with two other people you might have learned to detest during the season. During All Stars, the coaches on the bench who were adversaries during the year always seem to get along as long as the team keeps playing.
Once the coaches and team are made, it is imperative that the head coach (or manager) hold a parents meeting. This meeting is even more important then your regular season team parents meeting. The meeting should be a requirement and not last more than 10 or 15 minutes. The key points for the coach to stress to the parents are that because your child is an All Star, he is expected to play any position on the field (except maybe pitcher & catcher). The point of this is that many of the players were their team’s shortstops during the season and they are asked to play the outfield. You need to assure parents (and even the players) that it is imperative that all nine positions are equally important. Other points that should be discussed should be about playing time. I always told parents that I won’t be popular as a coach at the conclusion of All Stars for every family but that the league entrusted me to use my judgment whether they think it is right or wrong. I always stress that I can only guarantee the minimum required playing time and that you should consider this if you are going to cancel vacation plans for these All Star games.
Practices should be run a couple of ways. You will probably have in your mind the batting order and fielding positions. I would urge all coaches to mix things up in the practices and try players at different positions. There will be some minor unexpected absentees and you should be ready for this as coach.
The All Star games themselves can be some of the highest pressured tension in youth sports. Neighboring leagues will be in attendance and players will have expected nervousness. You can cut your regular warm ups short and take the team in the outfield and play any silly type of game you can think of. I have always used a game where I divide the team in half, and with a hard ball for each team, the teammates must pass the ball to each other using only their neck. This meaningless sounding game helps to relax the players, and for 11 and 12 year olds, this might be the best warm up for them.
All Stars are the highlights for some players and leagues. Aside from all of the potential problems and arguing, if your All Star team ends up going on a nice winning streak, there is nothing like it. Getting far into any tournament will require some luck. If your team gets eliminated, this is where, as a coach, you have to give them the “ultimate” pep talk. Now some teams continue to play in other local tournaments, which is great way to end the season.

Baseball Power Hitting Drills - These Power Hitting Drills Are a Must For Any Baseball Player
Everyone could benefit from a few baseball power hitting drills like I did. Striking out all the time starting to really suck? It did for me too. Between gripping the bat wrong and having a pathetic stance, I was a lot of work...for everybody. By adjusting my grip and doing a few power hitting drills a day, I finally gained some dignity on as well as off the filed.
By Tyler Barton
If you are a dedicated baseball player like I am with the thirst for power hitting, you know how important a good set of power hitting drills are. The sweet feeling of entering the ball park having your teammates proud and thankful to be on your team, to step up to the plate and have the other team's coach tell the fielders to move way back...it feels great.
However, before I found the right set of power hitting drills to incorporate into my baseball training, I didn't exist in the world of batting, let alone power hitting - I sucked!
It didn't matter what power hitting drills I did..or ate. My family couldn't afford a weight system, batting gloves don't help - just a waste of money, batting tees kinda helped my level swing - useless against non-stationary baseballs, I even tried eating a plate of spaghetti before every game - a mom tip. I would either end up flailing around at the plate like I had spaghetti arms (no pun intended), or I would get a stomach ache.
I was sick of everybody's advice and almost quit - there was a nice summer reading program at the library I could volunteer at for my community service hours for school.
Believe it or not, it was physics class that gave me a new practice drill - we had a question involving baseball distance and batting speed. Obviously, went home and looked for ways to improve my bat speed. WARNING: CLICHE MOMENT. It seemed too good to be true -PowerHittingDrills.com - a site devoted to baseball power hitting drills by university coaches and scientists (don't let this discourage you, it's about baseball, so it's written for baseball players).
Given that it's tested material, and the fact I was fed up with dumb redneck batting tips and willing to try anything, Given that these baseball power hitting drills are tested power hitting drills, and the fact I was fed up with dumb redneck batting tips and willing to try anything, I went for it. Going back to the beginning of this little blurb, this was the best investment ever - better than my ps3.
www.BattingCagesDirect.com
By just adjusting my grip I lost spaghetti arm and could make solid contact with the ball, so I was excited about learning the real power hitting drills.
Within weeks (or within a few season games for another perspective) I had added several power hitting drills and tips to my arsenal, power hitting baseballs to the fence for triples, and even ground rule doubles. Finally, within a month....same ol' season games - I hit my first home run - 290ft. Within another week or so, I became a power hitting machine. It's quite amazing how many friends remember you when you start winning games for their team.
