Derek Jeter Hurricane Batting Trainer
By guest author: Leny J
You've heard coaches preach practice, practice, practice. Work hard and good things will happen. But what I find interesting with this concept is that most of the players do work hard and practice practice and practice - but that's all they do - they work hard at practice at practice - which is great. But in my opinion, in order to improve on your game, particularly hitting a baseball, you not only need to work hard at practice but you need to also work hard after practice - on your own time. At home in the back yard, or at the park, or even in your garage. You need to spend time out of practice to work on your skills. There is not enough time during regular practice to fine tune your craft. Taking time for yourself to refine your skill is a must in this day and age of competitive athletics. I've found a great baseball hitting aid to help accomplish this.
Derek Jeter Hurricane Batting Trainer. This machine will help you to improve hitting a baseball. This solo swing training tool is ideal baseball swing trainer for the beginning Little League player to the high school all-star.
This durable machine with its integrated ball and stick means you can practice on your own anytime anywhere -- no more running after balls! It provides you with immediate feedback on bat speed, power and eye hand coordination. It is easy to set-up and transport. Workout in your garage or the backyard. Take it with you to the park and warm-up before the game. Have fun with it.
I'm a husband and a father of two. I enjoy watching all types of sports and spending quality time with my family. I'm also a former youth baseball coach and former president of a local Little League organization.
Practice hard and learn to be a better hitter.

Good Hitters Hit, Great Hitters Hit More

By Mike Posey
Recently, I was talking to a friend that works in Major League Baseball. We were having a discussion about hitting and agreed many instructors say things to hitters that do not actually happen. Here are a few examples:
1. Stay Back - The hitter does not have their weight all the way back when swinging the bat. What should be said is stay centered. Do not let your weight come forward too soon.
2. Line Up Your Knocking Knuckles - The knuckles are usually off centered with the knocking knuckles on one hand and the big knuckles on the other hand lining up.
3. Rotate on Your Back Foot - On hitting contact the back foot is usually toe down and in some cases off the ground.
4. Hit It Out Front - If the pitch is away, you will actually hit it farther back on the plate. Out front would be for a pitch on the inside half of the plate.
5. Extend Your Arms - Extension only occurs after contact has been made with the ball.
6. Roll Your Wrist Over - On contact the top hand is under the bat. Wrist roll happens after contact.
With all the instruction being given today, one has to wonder why some of the same mechanical flaws still occur over and over in youth players. Too many expect paid lessons to be the answer to develop their players hitting abilities.
It might be better to let a hitter develop naturally and not put a lot of extra ideas in their heads to confuse them. Good hitters will hit alot and develop a feel for their swing as they grow. Proper instruction can help a good hitter become better. Many have an expectation that paying for a lesson will somehow cause magic to occur and the good swing appears, "poof", before the next game. Without hours of hitting practice on their own (outside of instruction) a good swing will never be developed.
Hitting is rhythm and timing, this can only be developed through live swings. Good hitters hit, Great hitters hit more.

7 Tips on How to Become a Better Baseball Player
By Jack D. Elliott
Baseball players everywhere want to know how they can get better. The best way to do this is to look at it your training from a comprehensive perspective. Here, are some pointers to help you up your game.
1. Read and Watch Everything Baseball. Scan books, look over hitting and pitching lessons videos, see games, ask for help from coaches and good players.
2. Practice makes perfect. Do your drills daily for at least 5 to 6 days a week. Feel free to mix up your routine; however, make sure you are developing muscle memory with enough reps of your swing and pitching motion.
3. Pick up something else when the season ends. To avoid burnout, choose another sport or physical exercise in the off-season. It is preferable to pick something you are not familiar with. This will allow you to stay fit and appease any creativity interests you have because of the novelty of the new sport. By the time the next baseball season rolls around, you will find yourself avidly looking forward to playing.
4. Strength Train Before It Is Too Late. Do not make the mistake of waiting to build strength until your junior and senior years of high school. Do yourself a favor and start working out in the summer after your 8th grade year and work out each summer thereafter. This will allow you to build a base, plateau, and then, build up to yet another plateau. In this way, by the time you are senior, you will be very physically strong and ready to have a great senior season.
5. Get Lessons. A great instructor will save you time, wasted energy, and ultimately give you better results. By learning from a great instructor from the start, you can develop the best techniques from the start and avoid bad habits. Once you learn the lessons, you can practice them and go back only occasionally when you feel a refresher course is needed.
6. Practice with a tee. The basic hitting tee has improve the swing and hitting consistency of many major league players. Learn from their example and use this tee to perfect your ability to hit to the opposite field and fine tune your swing. This along with some waffle ball toss are great for removing holes in your swing.
7. Maximize your speed and power. Plyometric exercises can help develop your speed and explosiveness. Learn from a trained instructor who can give you a regimen that you can practice several days a week. If practiced sufficiently, you will see your speed and power improve. This added boost will carry over into other parts of your game as you have a new found confidence in your baseball abilities.
All these pointers are geared towards making you a top flight athlete by your final year of high school. By using each of these pointers you can expect to maximize your potential for baseball success.

Hurricane Batting Machine - Training Tip of the Day
The Derek Jeter Hurricane Machine is a high speed batting practice device. It can allows a batter to take up to 15 swings a minute. When doing high speed drills, always remember these improtant points:
(1) The batter should not work so fast that he or she get sloppy with hitting mechanics. It is better to take 5 good swings than to take 20 sloppy swings that can lead to the development of bad hitting habits. The batter should simply take the time to reset between swings. The batter should practice his or her pre-pitch routine so often that it becomes naturala and instinctive.
(2) The batter should make sure to read the contact the bat makes on each swing. Was the ball hit a linedrive, pop-up or ground ball. This feedback should be used to perfect a strong linedrive swing that generates maxiumum power.
(3) The batter must remember that the Hurricane Machine operates on a wrap-and-unwrap action. The batter must allow the machine to unwrap between swings or the powerbands will become stressed and break. The batter simply should allow the machine to pass at least 2 times between swings and on every 5th swing the batter should aloow the machine to unwrap or unwind completely. This will protect the powerbands and extend their life expectancy. A set of powerbands should last months if the batter or batters using the machine remember this tip.
The Hurricane Machine is unmatched when it comes to helping a batter increase his or her batting average. It is one of the most productive batting trainers that money can buy. It is 100% Guaranteed to Improve Bat Speed and Skill. Good Luck to You and Your Team! Have a great day, Nick

Hitting a Baseball - Finding the Root Cause of a Mechanics Problem

Derek Jeter Baseball Trainers - HurricaneMachine.com
By Nate Barnett
There is nothing more frustrating for a hitter than having a mechanical problem with the baseball swing and not knowing what the issue is or how to find a solution. While I don't have the ability here (nor do you have the patience to sort through it) to discuss all of the root causes to the countless mechanical failures of a baseball swing, I will give you one for today. Of course, you will need to consult with your hitting instructor for more depth and practical baseball drills to help solve the problem I discuss.
Let me point out the biggest lower body problem for hitters. I say the biggest problem in the sense that it does the most damage when trying to hit a baseball effectively.
The Problem: Hips floating forward
At the beginning of the swing, the hitter must begin to transfer some weight from the (presumably balanced) stance position onto his back leg. The weight distribution will then be roughly 60% weight on back leg, and 40% on front leg. Most hitters can do this step quite easily without a lot of baseball drills to assist.
The second movement a hitter makes is to begin to take some of the weight he has loaded onto his back leg and move it forward to create energy (this is the trigger process). At this time the back knee and foot begin to rotate towards the pitcher. This is when the hips floating forward problem begins for most hitters.
The weight that was originally placed on the back leg MUST remain there as the rotation occurs. You can see if this is happening by looking at the angle of the back leg. If there is a bend in the back leg at the knee (during contact with the baseball), there is a good chance this hitter is keeping his weight back. If the back leg is relatively straight when the hitter makes contact with the pitch, then the problem of hip floating forward has occurred. The only reason this happens is that many times younger hitters think they must move towards the baseball and begin turning their body with their rear hip and moving it forward towards the pitcher. This does nothing to create energy, and in fact, destroys the ability to create a quick and powerful swing.

Hitting Mechanics and How to Crush Slow Pitching

By Nate Barnett
I hated slow pitchers when I was playing ball. I would have the best hitting mechanics, everything would be great with my swing coming into the game, and then there would be some puss-baller on the hill that would foul everything up. I'm sure you've experienced much the same. Since I've been done with my playing career I've cracked the code for how to hit slow pitchers (wish I would have learned this years ago). Here's the three-step trick to crush all the floaters you want.
1. Widen your stance just a bit. A wider stance will allow you to keep your weight centered better. Slow guys have a magical ability to make you shift your weight to your front foot. When that happens, the Jamie Moyer affect kicks in and you're screwed. Having a wider stance will make it quite a bit tougher to get up on your front foot simply because the angle of your front foot to front him is more gradual. Of course you can't stride as far with this adjustment. That's fine, you can mash the ball all the same.
2. Make sure your weight shift is slow. All kick butt hitters move some of their weight to their back leg prior to the rotation of their body. Just make sure when that ball comes in with an arc as big as a rainbow you shift your weight in a slow manner. Too quick of a weight shift will goof up your rhythm and timing. There is then a high chance you will continue to kill worms by beating the ball into the ground. No fun.
3. Give your ego a break and hit the ball the other way. Most guys love to pull the ball. I'm with you on that one. But, if you want to be successful with slow pitchers, learn to see the ball deep in the strike zone and allow your body to take the pitch the other way. If you make up your mind (BEFORE you get into the batters box) that the pull side of the diamond doesn't exist, you'll be far better off. Trying to yank the ball out of the park on a guy with low velocity will only further your frustration.

Derek Jeter Hurricane Machine Questions, Answers, and Reviews

QUESTION: What is the main benefit of owning a Hurricane Baseball Hitting Machine?
ANSWER: I feel the number one benefit is that the Hurricane Machine gives the player a wide variety of hitting drills that allow a player to perform specific drills designed to target a players individual needs and weaknesses. Each of these drills teaches or reinforces an important fundamental of hitting.
QUESTION: How long does it take to assemble the Hurricane? Are tools required for set-up?
ANSWER: No tools are required. You should read the owners manual completely from front to back cover before assembling or using your new Hurricane Batting Machine. The first time you assemble your new machine may take 10 minutes. After that, it should take only 5 minutes are less. If you can do so, we recommend setting your machine up in an unused corner or area of your yard. This allows hitters to practice more often or on impulse when they are bored during the day when Mom or Dad may not be at home. Of you must store your machine in a secure spot between uses, it will only take minutes to set up and take down each time you use it. The Hurricane is a totally user-friendly machine when it comes to use and set-up. If you should have trouble during set-up, please do not hesitate to call our toll free customer service number to talk directly to someone that can answer your questions or walk you through set-up. Call 1-877-431-4487.
QUESTION: What is involved in adjusting the height or speed of the Hurricane Machine?
ANSWER: The height is adjusted by loosening the height adjustment knob, raising or losering the machine to the desired height, and tightening the height adjustment knob. This should take less that 20 seconds to do. Speed adjustment is done by added a Powerband to increase speed and removing a Powerband to decrease speed. Make sure to always connect the Powerband to the bottom hook-bar first and then to the top hook. This prevents a Powerband from "popping" you in the face should your hand slip off of it when you are connecting it to the hook. Speed adjustment takes about 2 minutes.
QUESTION: How fast does the Hurricane Machine ball travel? What pitch speeds does the machine simulate?
ANSWER: The Hurricane ball return speed is determined by the power and bat speed of the batter. With two Powerbands in place, and a average high school hitter swinging the bat, the machine's return speed will simulate speeds reaching up to 60 to 65 mph. With younger players, the speeds simulated may average 45 to 60 mph depending on the power and bat speed of the batter. The harder the ball is hit; the faster the ball's speed when it returns to the batter.
QUESTION: Do you hit the ball moving or should the batter let it stop moving before each swing?
ANSWER: The real beauty of the Hurricane Machine is that you can do both. Players love to hit the fast moving ball. Most of the drills outlined in the owners manual are moving ball drills. However, some of the isolation drills that allow the batter to hit specific pitch locations are performed by allowing the ball to stop before each drill. I would say that 90% of the drills and workouts on the Hurricane Machine are fast ball moving drills. These are highly productive when it come to improving skill, building confidence and increasing bat speed.
QUESTION: What is the number one thing I need to make sure my player knows about the Hurricane before he or she uses it?
ANSWER: I would say that there are actually three things that I would tell them. First, they should always make sure no one is near when they are swinging the bat. They should clear the area before they begin to work. Second, they must realize that the Hurricane operates with a "wrapping and unwrapping" action. They must always allow the Hurricane Machine Powerbands to unwrap between bat swings. If they do not allow the machine to unwind before they swing again, they will stress and break the Powerbands. And last, I would make sure that they take time between swings to reset and assume a proper stance everytime. The Hurricane Machine is so easy and convenient that many times kids tend to work to fast. They must make themselves slow down, get in a proper stance, and take a quality swing each time. The emphasis should be on QUALITY and not QUANTITY when it comes to practice swings.
ONE LAST IMPORTANT POINT: Make sure that your hitter has batting gloves. The Hurricane will greatly increase the number of practice swings a players takes each day. Kids will sometimes take 300 to 500 swings a day. Often times they are not used to taking so many swings. Until their hands get used to it, they must have protection. They will get blisters if they do not have a good pair of batting gloves. So make sure your player has a good pair of batting gloves to wear when hitting the Hurricane Machine.

YOU NEED THE DEREK JETER HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE

15 REASONS WHY YOU NEED THE DEREK JETER HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE
IN YOUR BACKYARD!
1. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE makes home practice so fun, entertaining, convenient, and productive that it is called the "Backyard Basketball Goal For Batters"! The reason for this "nickname" is that baseball and softball players love to hit as much as basketball players love to shoot. Having a hitting station in your yard 24-7 allows a player to hit or practice on "impulse" when he is bored and looking for something to do. Wouldn't you rather that your player swing the bat than play "Game Box", play "Horse" or watch TV? The truth is that the average youth player ,with average height and body build, is much more likely to play high school baseball than high school basketball because baseball involves a larger number of players than basketball. So shouldn't you make sure that your player spends as much time as possible swinging a bat? The Hurricane does just that!
2. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE allows your son or daughter to practice under your watchful eyes and to practice alone when you are at work or out of town. How many times has your son asked you to go outside to throw or pitch, but you had other responsibilities that prevented you from doing so? Now, your player can hit or practice alone without your help with the Hurricane Hitting Machine.
3. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE can be used indoors or outdoors and it makes a perfect year-round hitting station in your home or backyard. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE can easily give your player thousands and thousands of more practice swings each year! If you want your player to compete with other kids in the league, you must find a way to get as many practice swings as possible. The competition is tougher than ever because everyone practices and plays almost year round. Buy a Hurricane and give your player an edge over the competition! You will glad you did when your player becomes one of the team's or league's best hitters! With the purchase of a HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE that goal could be reached!
4. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE has height and speed adjustments for all ages and skill levels from Tee-ball to the college ranks.
5. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE's patented design gives the batter instant feedback as to the power and quality of every practice swing. The player immediately knows if a line drive, ground ball or fly ball was hit. This instant feedback is extremely useful for rapid skill and bat speed development! The Hurricane is well known and respected for developing a powerful line-drive swing!
6. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE is fully self-contained and requires no outside power source. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE's power source is its patented powerband system. This allows you to use it anywhere with ample space. Set it up at practice, before games or between games! It is a super pregame warmup!
7. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE is 100% Guaranteed to improve hitting skill and increase bat speed. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE carries a money back guarantee. HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE parts may be purchased if needed. What more could you ask for? Now you see why the Hurricane is one of the best selling training machines ever! It is one of the most popular trainers ever introduced to the marketplace!
8. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE has a travel weight of just over 30 pounds and it comes with a heavy-duty carrying bag. It fits easily into the trunk of even the compact automobile.
9. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE closely simulates real hitting conditions. The ball's large path of movement and speed of movement requires the hitter to really concentrate. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE builds incredible levels of confidence, fast!
10. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE features heavy-duty steel construction and a weather-proof powder-coat metallic paint finish that is designed to withstand the elements in all climates.
11. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE's patented design allows righted-handed and left-handed batters to work out together without having to change or adjust the machine. A single player can easily practice "switch-hitting" without having to stop and adjust the machine. This makes the HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE especially useful and convenient for team workouts.
12. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE does not require nets, screens or any other form of ball containment. The ball is safely controlled at all times by the composite rod.
13. The HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE assembles in minutes without tools. A detailed and easy-to-follow owners manual is included with each machine.
14. Every HURRICANE HITTING MACHINE comes complete with a detailed and simple-to-follow drill manual. The manual full explains the purpose and procedures for each drill. The manual also conatins the popular "20 Minute Hitter's Workout" for the future prospect. A workout designed to improve every fundamental needed to become a successful hitter at any level of competition. Should you need help with a drill, our staff is eager to help you. Derek Jeter and His Baseball Psychology
Derek Jeter and His Baseball Psychology
By Nate Barnett
I'm not a Yankees fan. There, I said it. I know that half of you are now finished reading this article, and I'm ok with that. I guess I should explain my opening sentence a bit more thoroughly. While I'm not a Yankess fan, I AM a fan of good, solid baseball. I consider good solid baseball players those who have a firm grasp on both the physical as well as the mental game of baseball. One of the first players I think of who has both components under control is Derek Jeter.
As with most years in his professional career, 2009 was an outstanding year for Jeter. First and foremost, he was a major contributor in the Yankess winning the World Series. Some of his 2009 personal accolades included:
1. Appearing in his 10th All-Star game
2. Winning his 5th World Series Ring
3. Has become the Yankees all time leader in hits wit 2,747
4. Won his 4th Gold Glove
5. Won his 4th Silver Slugger with a.334 batting average and.406 on base average
6. Won the Hank Aaron Award as the best hitter in the American League
If you get a chance to read Derek Jeter's book, The Life You Imagine, you will quickly learn what makes him tick. The mental game of baseball is high on Jeter's list of reasons why he has become a highly successful baseball player. I've added a couple quotes by Jeter below with some of my own commentary following.
"You have got to have fun. Regardless of how you look at it, we are playing a game. It is a business, it is our job, but I do not think you can do well unless you are having fun."
Derek Jeter
* Hard work, competing, and winning are what make baseball fun. Once in a while I hear younger players mutter under their breath about not having fun any more with baseball. Sometimes coaches can remove some of the fun from the game, however, I think typically players can regulate their own fun-meter while playing ball. Those who enjoying working on developing their hitting mechanics or pitching skills over and over again think baseball is fun. They know at some point they will enjoy the benefits of their hard work. Those who go head to head with tough competition think baseball is fun. And finally, those who continue to work through mistakes and achieve great things think baseball is fun. Fun doesn't always have to be easy. I tend to think Jeter would agree.
"We just want to win. That is the bottom line. I think a lot of times people may become content with one championship or a little bit of success, but we do not really reflect on what we have done in the past. We focus on the present."
Derek Jeter
* Getting stuck in what you did or did not do in the past will destroy your forward momentum. Lingering too long on your accolades from a couple years ago does nothing productive for you or your team in the present. I think Jeter has nailed this by saying that he doesn't reflect on what he or his team has done in the past. A new year is a new year. Another athlete who has talked about this quite a bit is Albert Pujols, who by the way won the Hank Aaron Award for the National League last year in 2009.
If you are looking for a couple good resources for developing the mental game, I'd suggest picking up the following books for starters. Both are fairly east to comprehend and will help you out in the baseball psychology department.
The Life You Imagine - Derek Jeter
Mind Gym - Gary Mack

How to Be a Three Hundred Hitter - This Single Tip Can Turn Your Child Into an All Star in No Time

How to Be a Three Hundred Hitter - This Single Tip Can Turn Your Child Into an All Star in No Time
By Jay Granat
Believe it or not this tip has nothing to do with grip, mechanics, balance, head position, weight transfer, open stance, closed stance, hitting to the opposite field, watching the ball, knowing the strike zone, hitting in the cage, bat speed, following through, or where your elbow is when you get into the box.
This tip is a vital thing for parents, coaches and young players to understand and remember the night before the game, the day of the game, in the dugout, in the on deck circle and in the batter's box.
Every week, parents contact me because their son or daughter is in a hitting slump.
Now, I have dozens of interventions which I use to help baseball players to break out of hitting slumps and to start to drive the ball with confidence, conviction, focus and optimism.
I work closely with a number of hitting coaches and we make sure the player is mechanically and physically sound.
One tip that I have told many parents and coaches over the years is very simple but it is exceedingly important. Realize that many kids and parents who seek out my help are struggling with their relationship with their child around their sport. In this case, it is baseball. And specifically, it is about hitting with more consistency, especially in pressure packed situations.
So, here is the tip: Your child needs to know on a deep and sincere level that that you love them whether they hit two hundred or whether they hit four hundred." Once your child believes this and feels this kind of unconditional love, he or she is set up to perform better at the plate. Make sure you communicate this message to your young player consistently and frequently. This will build confidence. It will help your child to relax and allow him to have fun at the plate and at the game.
Give it a try now.
